The Tuesday Night Band is a group of like-minded individuals who share a passion for big band jazz.
Our group hails from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. We are a mix of professionals and talented amateurs who rehearse every Tuesday night, year round! The band has been in existence for over 30 years.....1986 was our founding year.
We are co-operatively co-directed by several band members.
Our vocalist is Pam Barr.
We give concerts in the Halifax vicinity, often for charitable causes. Our goal is to make people aware that big band music is a live and doing very well.
Summers are often our busiest time with numerous open air concerts. We are regularly featured in the big band extravaganza at the TD Halifax Jazz Festival. Also, for several years now we have performed at the Chester Band Stand as part of their summer series.
The band owes a great debt to trumpeter/director Frank Ridgeway. Frank directed the band for many years until his passing in 2012.
Likewise, we are indebted to veteran radio man Ron Roberts, who for many years was our MC. Ron passed away in 2015.
As an offshoot of the Tuesday Night Band, we have a professional core group of various sizes, from 5 to 15 players, that does dance gigs. Our gigging group is called....The Lifeboat Party Swing Orchestra.
